An investigation into the cracking from Sydney's Opal conducted by the NSW Government found that the apartment block needs "significant rectification works".

Opal Tower, which was opened in August of 2018, was evacuated again for the 2nd time, just 3 days after it was executed on Christmas Eve, due to a large crack found on level 10 of the building. An initial report conducted by Professors Mark Hoffman, John Carter and Stephen Foster identified several issues which were likely to have caused the damage. The report concluded that although the building was structurally sound, there is significant work that is required to repair and strengthen the damage to the beams.

NSW Housing Minister Anthony Roberts says that he "completely understand the residents' reluctance in some cases to move back into what is essentially going to be, for some time, a building site". However, he goes on to say that the matter is between the residents and the builder, WSP. 

WSP engineers working on the Opal Towers Project says that remediation work would fully restore the build and they believe that it is appropriate for most residents to return to their units.
