Simon Anderson grew up with a love of bushwalking and sailing. He studied Architecture, graduating from University of Technology Sydney in 1996. The part time degree allowed him to be work for and be mentored by a  Sri Lankan trained architect, Pri De Fonseka, for 5 years during his studies. Also pivotal during this period was a study tour of Mexico to learn about the work of Luis Baragan, a master of natural light, form & colour.

Following his architectural studies Simon worked for several firms in Sydney most importantly Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke and Kennedy Associates Architects with roles included design architect for Sydney Conservatorium, Verbrugghen Concert Hall and the Hordern Pavilion. During his time with Kennedy Associates, the passion for sustainable design was engrained. In 2000 Simon was able to live in Stockholm Sweden for close to a year, studying Scandinavian architecture, and their emphasis on simplicity comfort and natural light, integrated with nature and natural materials.

The firm Anderson Architecture was formed by Simon in 2002 to explore domestic architecture with an emphasis on human design that connects with nature, to bring projects to life. A driving force is also the scientific rigour that Passivhaus brings to projects. Inspired by his partners career as a scientists, Passivhaus brings a grounding in physics that able to produce incredibly comfortable and healthy homes, that are carbon neutral to live in. Coupled with careful material selection the homes can also be carbon neutral to build.

Now employing 8 people the firm has been recognised with many awards for sustainable design.
